Late K.K. Modi served as the President and Managing Director of Godfrey Phillips India.

In his larger role as the Chairman of the well-diversified Modi Enterprise – K.K. Modi Group, he took inspiration from the vision of his father, Rai Bahadur Gujarmal Modi, and shaped it for the future. Moving away from the traditional businesses of the family, K. K. Modi with his erudite guidance, led the Group’s strategic development and was actively involved with every major development and decision, as it grew to become one of India’s leading corporate houses. Today, thanks to his vision and drive, Modi Enterprises – K.K. Modi Group is synonymous with innovative initiatives, pioneering businesses and successful turnarounds. The Group has not only formed various associations with huge global corporations through financial and technical collaborations, pioneered business ventures, but become market leaders in these sunrise industries.

He was instrumental in creating a homogenous ethos of working across the group companies; people oriented values, an empowering and a collaborative culture which encourages employees to evolve with time, drive new ideas and innovate better ways to transform business, transform the world. The values he established have not only enabled us to be more effective in anticipating the future and taking on new business ventures but have also helped us contribute meaningfully to the community we reside and operate in.

K.K. Modi was a formidable force in the Indian Industry and his contribution to various trade and industry bodies have been unmatchable. The positions he held included President of Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) (2002-2004, 2004-2006), President of FICCI (1997-98), President of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1983–84), Member of the Board of Governors and Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow.

While occupying the prestigious President’s office in FICCI, K.K. Modi pushed the government for more investments in infrastructure and privatizations in various sectors. Mr Modi also pushed for more protection of domestic industries and changes in labour laws that would enable restructuring and redesigning of Indian enterprises to make them globally competitive. During his presidential tenure at CACCI, Mr. Modi introduced countries such as the Republic of Georgia, and Uzbekistan into the membership of CACCI. His contributions helped CACCI gain prominence at multi-lateral platforms among organizations like, APEC and EUROCHAMBRES. K.K. Modi also extended financial support for the promotion of the Product and Service Councils, particularly the CACCI Women Entrepreneurs Council. The CACCI Local Chamber Awards and the Asia-Pacific Young Entrepreneur Award were launched during his Presidency.

K.K. Modi passed away on 2 November 2019. He continued to work till his last days and has left behind that very spirit with us, of dedication, commitment and love for our work. We are committed to his vision and his dreams and continue purposefully on the path he set for us.
